Together, Elimini and HOFOR are engaged in a transformative collaboration to convert Amagerværket Power Station (AMV) – Copenhagen's newest and most efficient biomass plant – into a carbon removal powerhouse.
The project, named BioCapture Copenhagen, is set to establish a robust, scalable BECCS value chain capable of removing hundreds of thousands of tonnes of CO₂ annually. It pre-qualified to bid for the 2025 Danish Energy Agency (DEA) subsidy and is working toward future CO₂ capture opportunities at Amagerværket.

A scalable project in the right regulatory environment, BioCapture Copenhagen combines Amagerværket Unit 4 (AMV 4) with a port location and Danish subsidy to provide an attractive setting.
Advantages include:
■ DEA’s 2025 CCS competitive tender will allocate up to €3.8 billion to one or more winning projects over 15 years
■ AMV 4 pre-qualified for the tender in May 2025 and is now working to secure future CO₂ capture opportunities at Amagerværket
■ The site offers space to add CCS technology and technical lifespan to 2049 or beyond
■ Procurement and construction contract under negotiation for selected capture technology
